Our Fiscal Crisis Part 1: Overview
Introduction For many, the national debt feels distant and abstract. Thanksgiving political discussions would be about as dry as the holiday’s talisman dish if family members only debated the accumulation of gross national debt in our nation’s history. While the political decisions behind this accumulation are more likely to cause sparks, to the average person the impact of $36 trillion in debt is less interesting fare. Though maybe my family is just a statistical outlier. Apparently, a majority of voters are concerned about the debt, with the Peterson Institute finding 75 percent of voters think addressing the debt should be a top-three priority for the president and Congress. I have some doubts on this conviction however and will continue with this blog post. ...
